Research Focus

Dr. Kurukitkoson’s research grew out of doctoral and postdoctoral work in photonics and optical fibre communications, concentrated on Raman fibre amplification and the nonlinear physics of long-haul optical transmission. At Aston University’s photonics group, and in subsequent collaborations with the General Physics Institute (Moscow) and France Télécom R&D, he worked on Raman fibre converters and hybrid Raman/erbium-doped amplification schemes aimed at pushing standard fibre networks toward higher per-channel bit rates — including a theoretical study on upgrading transmission to 40 Gb/s per channel without signal regeneration — and on span-length and nonlinearity-management strategies for wavelength-division-multiplexed systems.

His later applied work broadened into optical-link performance evaluation (a novel algorithm for optical-link Q-factor assessment) and into materials science, on the synthesis and characterisation of carbon nanostructures by arc-discharge methods. Consistent with the interests he lists on his own academic profile, his current focus extends this foundation in photonics and optical communication toward artificial intelligence and machine learning — an emerging direction rather than an established publication record so far.
