Research Focus

Her research applies fracture mechanics — the study of how and why materials crack — to piezoelectric media, materials that generate an electric charge under mechanical stress and are used in sensors and actuators. She works with the Symmetric Galerkin Boundary Element Method (SGBEM), a computational technique well suited to modeling cracks and singular stress fields, to analyze how such smart materials fail.
